Hello,
Each have their advantages and disadvantages.
one thing that makes ims apart from db2 is the concept of gsam databases which are helpful in checkpoint restart logic |

Hi,
There is no point of doing argu on which database is good or bad. As every database is designed for something. I work on both the type of data base. Most of the MF project ( generally old one) has the IMS as the database. But now a days, every one looking for DB2 as it is much simpler or has more advantages. Many compnies are alo migrating from IMS to DB2. |

Hi,
Both the databases (DB2 and IMS) are having advantages on various aspects. We can not tell which database is good or bad. Only one thing i wanted to highlight here is that Data retreival time in IMS is very fast as compared to DB2 system. Because of heirachical structure in IMS, data retreival process is very very fast. But in case of DB2, data is retreived by joining the tables by establishing the relationships among the tables.
Regards
