These questions are hardly basic, and would require way too much to answer than could reasonably be provided in this forum. I would suggest that you read IBM's "ABC's of z/OS Systems Programming", which is a ten-volume collection of books, to help you answer some of your questions.
Here is a link to Volume 1: www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg246981.pdf |

Hai,
MAINFRAME is a very big system means not one. It includes many processors like...
It executes more than million lines per second.
It provides more security and Access is very fast.
Already many applications are developed in Mainframes. They can migrate that applications to new technologies. But, it will take more time and very cost. They may loss data while migrating to some other technology.
That's why they are keeping the applications in mainframes itself.... |

Personally, I shun the use of the term "mainframe" and instead use the term "z/OS Server".
An IBM mainframe is a computer running z/OS, Linux, VM, or VSE.
Important features are:
1. Maximum reliable single-thread performance.
2. Maximum I/O connectivity.
3. Maximum I/O bandwidth.
4. Heavy-duty reliability. |

A powerful central computer designed for high-level computing tasks. Mainframe computers are often accessed by multiple users via attached workstations. |

* Mainframe is an industry term for large computer
* Mainframes used to be defined by their size, and they can still fill a room, cost millions, and support thousands of users. But now a days, mainframe can also run on a laptop and support two users. So today's mainframes are best defined by their operating systems: Unix and Linux, and IBM's z/OS, OS/390, MVS, VM, and VSE. |

1.wat is mainframe
A : Mainframe is a large computer with a processing speed of millions bytes per sec. and large data handling capability and protection.
2.wat is the configuration of mainframe server
A: IBM Z800or Z900 server.
64 bit architecture.
64 bit real memory
24, 31 and 64 bit addressing mode.
3.why v go for mainframe
A: 1.High processing speed.
2. Large data handling cpability
3. Impacable data security
4. Not prone to viruses as it does not use open systems.
5. Does not use open system, do use languages cobol and pl1 for programming applications. Hence give a greater protability.
