please give me the jcl for comparing two datasets and listing out the common records by eliminating duplicates without using sort utility.

Eg.
dataset1 contains Deepak,Arun,Dileep,Aashish,Arun,Anup
dataset2 contains Anup,Arun,Mohan,Kavitha,Deepak.

Output should be Deepak,Arun,Anup.

I don't want the dataset to be sorted and it should be in the order of dataset1.

Thanks
Sandi

What software DO you want to use for this? (I agree that SORT doesn't make sense for your data format).

You do not say but is the data only and exactly as you describe for your datasets or is there other data there also? If there is more please give example.

Sandi,

The fact that you want the output records in the original order of dataset1 does NOT rule out using DFSORT as it can retain the original order. If you don't want to use DFSORT for some other reason, that's fine, but you shouldn't rule it out based on something you think it can't do that it can.

Do you have Comparex tool, it could be easily accomplished using that.
